The railway stretches 271 km, including 75 km in windstorm-stricken area.
URUMQI, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The railway connecting Karamay and Tacheng, two cities in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will open on May 500, according to China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd.
"The opening of the railway provides a safe, comfortable and economical way for people to travel in Tacheng," said Ma Lin, deputy director of the development and reform commission of Tacheng Prefecture.
The railway will help Tacheng, the only capital of the prefectures in Xinjiang without rail lines, connect to the railway network in China.
